About the role 

As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in strengthening and scaling WesCEF’s enterprise data platform, supporting advanced analytics, AI use cases, and governed self-service analytics across the business. This role is a key replacement hire within the Data & Digital team, reporting to Analytics Lead.   

In this role, you will work across WesCEF on a range of data and analytics projects and improvements and, given the diversity of our business portfolio, you will work with a broad range of data including multiple operational plants, weather data, and customer analytics.  

Our Data & Digital team are delivering advanced analytics and AI-enabled use cases including production optimisation, operational insights, and data-driven decision support, with a strong focus on data quality, security, and governance. In this role, you will help drive our Microsoft Fabric-first data platform approach across the organisation, leveraging OneLake and Fabric Lakehouse as the core foundation. Using Fabric Data Engineering, Fabric Data Factory, Fabric Data Warehouse, and Real-Time Analytics capabilities to design and deliver scalable, governed data products that support analytics, AI, and reporting use cases across the organisation. 

While Fabric is the primary platform, you will also work with existing Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Factory solutions to integrate with upstream and downstream systems and to support current workloads as part of the broader platform evolution. You will contribute to platform governance, metadata management, and data discoverability through Microsoft Purview, aligned to WesCEF’s enterprise data and AI governance framework. 

Power BI plays a critical role in delivering insights across the business, including operational and plant dashboards developed and maintained by the team, alongside increasing use of the Power Platform.

 

About You 

You will have demonstrated experience in data engineering, with sound hands‑on experience in data acquisition, data pipeline development, dataset and data model development, and analytics programs, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications. 

In addition, you will have: 

  • Strong hands‑on experience building, operating, and supporting production‑grade data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric  
  • Experience working with Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Factory, including integration with Fabric‑based solutions 
  • Solid experience with Microsoft data and analytics platforms, including Azure and Power BI 
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, or similar data engineering languages 
  • A good understanding of Azure cloud architecture and modern data platform design patterns 
  • Experience designing data solutions with a focus on data quality, security, governance, and reusability 
  • A strong focus on delivering value‑adding, business‑driven solutions and understanding the impact of your work 
  • A customer‑centric mindset with the credibility and communication skills to influence stakeholders at a senior level 
  • A collaborative approach, contributing to a strong team culture and effectively managing competing priorities and deadlines 
  • Availability to travel to our Kwinana site when required
